DR. JAMES LOVELOCK
ORIGINATOR OF ‘THE GAIA HYPOTHESIS’

Dr. James Lovelock has lived many lives in one, and has trodden a path of unparalleled originality in each. Born into a modest family shortly after the Great War, Lovelock’s career as a scientist took a zigzagging route through numerous disciplines. As a result, he picked up the kind of life lessons that few others in the highly specialised realm of academia ever experience.
Having shared an office with Carl Sagan while working at NASA on the detection of life on Mars, Lovelock formulated his most important piece of work more than fifty years ago. Known as ‘The Gaia Hypothesis’, he concluded that the entire planet Earth was a single unified organism. Now aged 100, Dr. Lovelock shows no signs of slowing down. He recently published a work on artificial intelligence, and has other ground-breaking books in production.
